blueinkedfrostI've finished posting a long fanfic, complete at 49,000 words. It's a ghost hunting alternate universe written for Heathers (1988).
Eyes, Blood, and Ashes by Blueinkedfrost
Veronica Sawyer can see ghosts but cannot fight them. Jason Dean has hunted the ghosts he cannot see since he was a child. When they meet at Westerburg High and dead bodies start piling up around them, they need to rely on each other’s abilities to fight a particularly ambitious and deadly ghost who’s out for their blood.

I'm still proud of how passively and innocently I phrased 'dead bodies start piling up around them', as if these dead bodies are just randomly turning up with no agency from the protagonists whatsoever. For these two characters, homicide is their idea of a fun Friday date night. They're like the Murder Twins, only they're not twins.
