Dear Yuletide Writer,

Thank you for writing for me! I hope you have a wonderful Yuletide. Our shared rare fandom is joy, optional details are optional, and please don't get eaten by bears. I hope that you and yours have a happy and safe season.

Things I like to read include: adventure, ghost stories, humour, horror, slice-of-life, alternate universes, love, tragedy, suffering, hope, irony, drama, mystery, complicated characters, complicated relationships, character development, underexplored parts of canon universes, plot twists, banter, capable/competent characters, female characters having adventures and being central to the story, femslash, gen, het, slash, rare characters in the spotlight, unusual stories, being surprised, and many other things that hopefully cover what you enjoy writing. I'd love to read a story you want to write.

In general, I'd much rather read fic that went in a direction you liked writing than a story that stuck to a prompt that wasn't working for you.

Fandoms

'Tis Pity She's a Whore - John Ford (play)

John Ford's Carolinian drama, 'Tis Pity She's a Whore, first performed between 1629 and 1633, has almost everything sensational possible - incest, murder, torture, mutilation, abuse, revenge, corrupt churchmen, a Spaniard, infidelity, duelling, disguises. While Ford's methods of forcibly dragging eyeballs onto his play seem crude, they are nonetheless effective.

Characters: Annabella, Giovanni

Please write Annabella and Giovanni. I love the intensity of their relationship. They really shouldn't be together but they cannot be apart. Their love is intense, aberrant, destructive, devoted unto death.

Do Not Want: Alternate universe in a modern day, mundane setting.
Do Enjoy: Any other alternate universes and/or the canon setting.

Judge Dee Mysteries - Robert van Gulik (novel/short story series)

Mysteries from the Tang Dynasty solved by the legendary detective Judge Dee, transporting readers into an utterly different place and time. This series has bloodthirsty murders and horrid crimes and the arts of observation and deduction, true detective stories that wrap up all the small details you read earlier into a satisfying ending for the mystery. It has interesting female characters, steel-strong and decorous, thoughtful and bloodthirsty by turns. The series also has martial arts, courtly etiquette, politics low and high, and occasional mysticism - these books are very satisfying reads. An absolute treasure of a series.

Characters: Dee Jen-djeh, Chiao Tai, Ma Joong, Tao Gan

Casefic would be amazing. I would love to read about Judge Dee and his companions solving yet another seemingly impenetrable mystery, riddle or crime. I love the ingenuity of these stories and the way they take the reader into an immersive world of the past. Besides the judge and his assistants, I also love van Gulik's interesting female characters - I'd love it if the story nodded to that aspect of the series, whether by using canon or original characters. It's fine if the story doesn't include all the requested characters.

The Villainess Reverses the Hourglass (manhwa)

Aria Roscente, the daughter of a prostitute, was catapulted into high society when her mother married into the noble Roscente family. She wickedly persecuted her saintly stepsister, Mielle, and was executed for her crimes. But what if Mielle was also a villainess, who manipulated Aria's actions all along? Suddenly gaining the power to turn back time, Aria is given a second chance to live.

The art style for this is utterly luscious and beautiful.

Characters: Any (Aria Roscente, Mielle Roscente, Emma, Isis Frederick)
Source: mangadex, webnovel.com, readwebnovels

I love the lavish, glorious, opulent melodrama of this series. Happy for a story about any one or more of the nominated characters.

Aria: Show Aria being clever, ambitious, deciding on her place in the world and the direction of her life. I like the relationship of equals between her and Asher. I'd love to read an Aria-centred story that shows her strength. Alternate universe prompt: a story about Aria experiencing more of the dark side of vengeance, exploring the 'if you want revenge, dig two graves' story tropes. Would Aria ever go too far or feel that she went too far?

Mielle: A fascinating character! I'd love to read about your interpretation of Mielle and Emma, who was more or less Mielle's foster mother. How did Mielle end up so twisted, despite caring about Emma and her brother on at least some level? After Aria took the time to execute a slow and lingering revenge against Mielle, would Mielle ever be able to change herself and strike back, much as Aria developed strength from the hardships she went through?

Emma: A life filled with tragedy, who raised Mielle after becoming widowed and suffering her own miscarriage. What was her relationship with Mielle's mother like? What was she like as a surrogate parent? Tell me more about the class and social dynamics of life as a servant in this universe (revolutions of the proletariat optional). I'd love to read more about Emma.

Isis: An exciting villainess. I'd love to read about her and Mielle being capable and competent and executing their schemes. Or what if Aria and Mielle have to reluctantly work together to avoid both losing their lives to Isis?

Versions: I've read the manhwa on mangadex and the webnovel online. If you've read the original version or a different translation, I'll be happy to read a story based on those.

Fandom: Baldur's Gate (video game)

Fantasy adventure bildungsroman with a host of amazing characters.

Characters: Any (Aerie, Dorn, Dynaheir, Korgan, Montaron, Sarevok, Viconia, Xzar)

I'd love to read about an adventure with your favourite combination of characters. Baldur's Gate is the fandom I keep coming back to, because there are so many stories and possibilities and styles and twists and tangents to explore. Ghost story, swords and adventure, unjust suffering, friends and laughter, bizarre mystery, love.

I haven't played the extended editions, but I'd still enjoy reading fic about the characters/settings there as long as it has a lot of exposition. Nominated or non nominated, joinable companions or the weirdest minor characters, the strangest and most unlikely bedfellows or long-term canonical pairings, alternate universes, original characters - all welcome.
